Memories of Grovelands Park Lake rowing

The Grovelands Park Centenary has prompted a number of people to reminisce over memories of the park in bygone days. One such memory is of rowing on Grovelands Lake.

In the picture below we see John Southwell, complete with cigarette in hand, aged about 13 or 14 in the Summer of 1953 photographed outside the Grovelands Park Café. He is pictured here with his twin brother Arthur and friend Tony Phillips (centre).
